The Princess had two choices that would change her life forever. She could either watch her true love be slaughtered by a tiger, or she could watch him marry another woman right in front of her. The outcome was completely up to her. The story is called “The Lady or the Tiger.” In this story, a barbaric princess is in love with a young boy from the village. When her father, who is also barbaric finds out, the boy is put into a trial. This trial is to decide whether the boy is innocent or guilty by the power of the gods. If the young lover chooses one door, a bloodthirsty tiger will jump out and he will be slaughtered, meaning he’s guilty. When the boy is given the choice of which door to choose, the princess, after having days to think it over, told the young man to choose the right door with a move of her hand. The question is, which did she direct him to? The lady or the Tiger? The princess chose to direct her lover to the tiger because, she was barbaric and couldn’t see him with another woman, and she had an existing hatred for the woman that he was going to marry. The story says, “The king had a daughter with a soul as feverent and imperious as his own” (Stockton 2). If the heart of the princess as graceless as her father’s, she would not be able to make the honorable decision and show her sweetheart to the lady. Moreover, the princess and her barbaric personality was incapable of true love. Conjointly, there is evidence in the story that the princess had a prior hatred for the woman who the boy would marry on the spot if he were to open her door. The story says, “It was one of the fairest and loveliest of the damsels of the court who had been selected as the reward of the accused youth, should he be proved innocent of the crime of aspiring to one so far above him; and the princess hated
