Innate Talent or Time and Commitment? Some believe that we are born with the skills to become successful whereas others say that we have to train our bodies and minds to become elite. Authors, David Epstein, writer of The Sports Gene and Malcolm Gladwell, of Outliers: The Story of Success squabble between natural born talent versus continuous training. But what some journalist forget, is that not everyone is born with a gift to be prosperous in a skill. Moreover, some are able to train their mind and body into becoming well rounded in a field of choice.
As a guitarist, I have desire my guitar to produce music that is accurate, professional, and beautifully sounding. When first beginning to play the guitar, my guitar did not produce these sounds, but I worked tirelessly to reach that musical perfection for which I hungered and admired about more mature players. Drawing from this example, two men in history shared this attitude in pursuit of perfection: Frederick Douglass and Plato. Respectively, one desired a racially equal nation not plagued by slavery and the latter yearned for the complete nourishment of the soul. Although living in different time periods, these two men are visionaries, seeing beyond what is temporal.
Final Draft We all have stories and memories tied to songs that have become a part of who are. Remember the violins playing in the background while watching a sad movie or the song that helped you through difficult times or the song you and your friends sang while attending a concert? Whether it’s on the television, the radio, in a movie, in the car, or at a sporting event, music is everywhere. Feeling the rhythm of music brings us so much joy and excitement but playing musical instrument is even more fulfilling because it has many benefits.
Musicians are “great problem solvers in school and social situations” because they have a stronger corpus callosum, the part of the brain that connects the two halves.(Berman) When an outsider joins band their minds are opened into a whole new world. This is because when a person is making music there is not only one place in the brain that is being activated. A musician is using parts of the brain that have to do with the visual, auditory, and motor functions of the brain. People who play a musical instrument are working multiple parts of their brain at once making it easier for them to remember information more.
Revenge, which is often sought to achieve a sense of justice, can ironically lead to negative consequences and perpetuate a cycle of harm. The act of seeking vengeance often results in more harm than good. The irony of revenge is the action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for an injury or wrong suffered at their hands; the desire to inflict retribution. It’s that seeking to avenge that is a wrong that can often lead to unintended and negative consequences, as the act of seeking revenge perpetuates a cycle of harm. This theme is exemplified in Edgar Allan Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado," where the protagonist Montresor seeks revenge against his perceived enemy, Fortunato.
Her Piano teacher then was amazed at how quickly she grasped new things and her rate of development. The same strength, determination and enthusiasm propelled her to learn to play five other musical instruments on her own. Her love for music is infectious; whenever she is at home, she spends, at
Listening to music has shown to lead to changes in cognitive abilities which lead to the creation of the term Mozart effect which refers to the effects of Mozart’s classical music on cognitive function(Rauscher et al.,
1. Introduction The idea that music can improve a person’s cognitive abilities has been a debate for many years among scientists and the media. Those who support this idea believe that music can enhance reading and literacy skills, spatial temporal reasoning, mathematical abilities as well as emotional intelligence. (Sarnthein,1997) Albert Einstein, one of the greatest human minds, believed in the power of music with regard to a person’s learning.
“There is always one moment in childhood when the door opens and lets the future in” (Greene, 1904-1991). Music is essential to every person’s life and seems to be involved in every activity of a child’s life from the moment they wake until they go to bed. Recent studies have shown that music (listening and playing instruments) have many impacts on children, especially in early stages of development of the child’s “body, brain, and their emotion foundations that support us for the rest of our lives” (Borgese, n.d.). There are also many other factors that affect child development like type/genre of music both violent and nonviolent that may contribute or hinder the future child’s behavior. Different music can have different effects on people, people don’t absorb the effect of music the same way.
Martin Gardiner at the Center for the Study of Human Development at Brown university reported a connection between early language skills and musical ability. Giving children education in music as young as possible can help them to have the ability to be successful in learning language. In another study done by Columbia University, it demonstrated that students who participate in the music are usually more cooperative with teachers and peers, have more self-confidence, and are better able to express themselves. Moreover, the social benefits of music education can continue throughout a student’s life in ways one would never suspect. An example of this would be that “students who participate in school band or orchestra have the lowest levels of current and lifelong use of alcohol,
Imagination can be developed when children are creating their own musical instruments as the child can discover the different sounds of different materials they use. Some children are appealed to music because of the variety of sounds the instruments can make. (Campbell et al, 2010). Music develops the artistic awareness, self-expression, self-growth, self-esteem and multicultural sensitivity which all forms part of the holistic development of the
Music was made from pure instruments, voice and talent and now we can make our voices look good with the thing called auto-tune in the studio. and musical instruments are not the only source of music theres a thing called launchpad that creates music like a piano but its a small box/pad. Its cool how one thing leads to another and i hope this isn't the end of music evolution. ✓ Reaction ✓ While making this paper i took a ride through history of music and saw how it evolved its truly amazing how far we came.
Touch. It is the essence of every human being that wants to successfully coordinate himself in the environment around him. To put it another way, touch is one of the most important senses that every being posses but most of the time it is the one that is most neglected as well. qTouch plays a big role in everyday life for every creature but there are some professions that necessarily need the touch component to be more precise and present.
Law and Zentner (2012) focused on a study which aimed to construct and validate the profile of music perception skills. It can be considered that a conventional strategy for determining musical acumen and proficiency is to search on reliable factors that primarily contribute to an individual’s extent of musical training. However, depending judgment on musical ingenuity fails to recognize untrained individuals with musical skills, as well as those who, despite extensive musical training, may not be proficient. .The research is a three-pronged study, beginning with the authors developing a new test battery (Profile of Music Perception Skills, PROMS) with nine subtests, tapping multiple skills across subdomains of pitch, rhythm, and sound quality.
Some studies showed that people who listened to classical music performed worse in memory tests than those who didn’t” (See). We do know that some children and adults seem to be calmer and more engaged when music is incorporated into learning. People feel that this does impact the individual. Some people do not believe that arts in education are beneficial, but others feel that they are very monumental is
