American Dream In The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gatsby is the most meaningful character because he represents the american dream. Gatsby represented the American dream when Gatsby said “Oh , God! In a miserable way” (Fitzgerald 92). Gatsby represents the American dream in this situation because he is finally seeing Daisy after multiple years. He is nervous because most peoples American dream is to get married to their golden girl and Daisy was Gatsby's “Golden Girl”. Gatsby didn’t know if daisy would be fully satisfied with him which made him nervous. Gatsby also represented the American dream when his dad said “ If he’d of lived he’d of been a street man. A man like James Hill. He’d of helped build the country” (Fitzgerald 176).
