Society has created a concept on how men and women should act and dress. These are called gender stereotypes and roles. Gender stereotypes can have a negative impact on children. Stereotyping children at a very young age could impact the way they think and their behavior. Society labels pink as a feminine color and blue as a masculine color. Parents will buy their daughter dolls, and they will buy their son an action figure or truck. If their son wanted a doll and their daughter wanted an action figure, parents would typically scoff at the idea. Society tells you to only speak and act a certain way depending on your gender. While parents may buy their daughters action figures or other things that are considered to be for boys, they will absolutely not buy their sons dolls or makeup. Men are supposed to be tall and muscular. They are not supposed to show emotion, or otherwise, that would make them less of a man. This stereotype causes many problems for them and others. Since men cannot show emotions, this causes problems if they were to have a mental illness or physical problems. Most men would refuse to seek help because this would make them seem weak. They also become emotionally distant and end up losing friends and loved ones.
Stereotyping others based on their gender can affect the society as a whole. Women are judged no matter what they do. This causes them to lose their confidence and not seek their potential career, or they will not be hired due to them being a woman. Men are raised and told to not show emotions. When they get married and have a baby, they may be distant to their child. Thus, the child growing up without a supportive father figure which will then affect the child in return.
