To implement my knowledge gained in this course, specifically in regards to gender equality in sports and careers, I have designed an activity or game to be taught to children to plant the seed in their minds about equality. Children as young as two years old in preschool and day care environments have portrayed skewed mental perceptions of gender and the stereotypical attitude of boys as strong and girls as weak. This teaching activity would prevent children around the age of two from beginning to think that it is wrong for girls to be strong and wrong for boys to be sensitive. By normalizing the equal treatment of boys and girls in regards to their choices and emotions, the world would begin to enact change starting with our future, the children. These color implementations for children starting at conception and throughout their young lives impact perception of their gender without even giving them a choice. Boys are given toy trucks to play with, and girls are given pink dolls to entertain them. Similar to the study performed on Baby X, if parents did not dictate the gender of their child and allowed them to chose for themselves by making options available, gender polarity would be lessened. Gender polarization is the notion that males and females are polar opposites and defines very opposite behaviors, actions, and emotions as the correct attitude for each sex (Gillis and Jacobs 424).
