Rationale:
What is the purpose? The purpose of this activity is to support children in developing an understanding of what the earth Is made up of as aligned with the Geography learning area of the Australian Curriculum.
What concepts are being targeted? The concepts that will be targeted in this activity will include Earth and Space science: ‘Earth is subject to change within and on its surface, over a range of timescales as a result of natural processes and human use of resources’, Sustainability: What can students do to be sustainable, Environmental: how can students look after the environment, Place and interconnection: How does land, air, and, water connect (Australian Geography Teachers Association (AGTA), n.d.).

They will then label each of these jars land, air, and water using masking tape and a pen. The educator will then gather up different pictures from google (cow, boat, bird, plane, frog, tractor, hot air balloon, eagle, and humans) and a book called ‘Dumbo on land on sea and in air – Jerry Walters, and put a sheet of paper and pencils on each table for children. They will then place the jars, book and pictures on a table in view of where the children sit on the floor. The students will help gather the ‘air, land, and water’ from outside and put them into the jars. These jars will then be placed on the floor along with the pictures in view of all children.
