I see a very strong comparison between George Bush Jr. and Agamemnon, the king of Argos. My main reason for this comparison is the fact that Agamemnon and George Bush Jr. both led their respective armed forces to very long wars, that some would even classify as prolonged, and lost many their men. After being appealed by Menelaus, Agamemnon led his greek forces to take back Helen of Troy, who was the wife of his brother, Menelaus after she was captured by Paris of Troy. To please the Gods and to avoid the winds of Artemis, Agamemnon sacrificed his daughter, Iphigenia, which deeply upset his wife, Clytemnestra and would ultimately seal his fate. Due to the terrorists attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, Americans were initially in support of the Iraq invasion but, after discovering there no was no link between the two and realizing the cost of both money and lives, support quickly began to fade leaving many Americans questioning why the invasion occurred at all. Agamemnon also faced criticism for his war with Troy, but his criticism came from Artemis, the Goddess of Hunting and Wild Animals, who worried for those who would lose their lives during battle. The Greeks battled the people of Troy for nine years and ultimately failed to conquer the city due to the intense and courageous fighting of warriors like Achilles. The Iraq War lasted eight years and even though the United States and its coalition forces declared victory with the capture and death of Saddam Hussein, it was never able to fully stabilize Iraq, which is still involved in it’s own civil
