Ronald Reagan was the 40th President of the United States. He was a part of the Republican Party. Before his term as President, he was an American actor and politician. He served as President from 1981 to 1989. His goal was to achieve “peace through strength”. In 1986 Reagan obtained an overhaul of the income tax code. At the end of this the Nation was enjoying the longest recorded period of peacetime prosperity, without recession or depression. He faced criticism for his handling of the Iran-Contra scandal, which involved the sale of weapons to Iran and the funding of anti-communist rebels in Nicaragua. He also caved in to the Demands of Terrorist “ After several Americans were taken hostage by terrorist in Lebanon, Reagan provided weapons to Iran in Exchange for their release”. (Soapboxie). On March 30, 1981, President Reagan was leaving the Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C., when several shots were fired. Reagan was wounded when one of the bullets struck him under the left armpit. There was three other people wounded during the shooting. After Reagan spent twelve days in the hospital he was able to return to the White House.
