Friendship is a quality that holds the unity between two people as they have common interests. A friendship can be present between someone young and old, male and female, animal and human; it’s only when minds think alike or have gratitude for the other that they can have that unbreakable link. Of Mice and Men was written by one of the most profound and eminent writer in America, John Steinbeck, whom as well written other pieces of literature that captured the realism found within The Great Depression. Of Mice and Men is about two men, George Milton and Lennie Small, who have lived and continuously moved forward as one when they find work at a ranch near the Salinas River and south of Soledad, California. I become of acquaintance with Katie at the mere age of nine as we shared the same third grade class. As George has met Lennie through knowing his Aunt Clara, I met Katie through sharing the same class. Also, on top of being in the same class, Katie and I live in the same neighborhood, living only a couple of houses apart! Although we were not born in the same country (Katie was born in Kazakhstan and I was born in The United States), knowing each other at an early age and going to the same school since the third grade until to the eighth grade made us very close, for we were always around each other at walking distance. Unlike George and Lennie, having the knowledge that both of our parents are immigrants, our relationship became stronger as we have a similar cultural background. Also, as George and Lennie still stand close in the present time, Katie and I still find time today to socialize as well as do things
