Have you ever wanted to create something new? George Washington Carver is famous because he created new things out of peanuts, and people still use those products today. Carver never gave up no matter what obstacles came his way. Even though he was born into slavery, he never let that get in the way. George Washington Carver became a famous scientist, teacher, and lecturer.
George Washington Carver was born in Diamond Grove, Missouri in 1864. His adopted parents were Moses and Susan Carver. He also had two or three sisters who died young and a brother name James. Carver received a honorary Doctorate of Science degree from Simpson College, in 1928. He was given a honorary membership of the American Inventors Society in 1939. He was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 1990. He was honored with a ‘George Washington Carver’ 3 cents postage stamp in 1948. In 1998, a second Carver stamp was issued after his death. In 2005, as part of the school's 150th anniversary, the school adds a scholarship and a fellowship in his name. He received many other honors for his work in science. As a tribute to Carver’s life and work, Congress declared January 5 as George Washington Carver Recognition Day. His work on crop rotation and innovative products helped many farmers to survive and make a good living. His was interested in science and in helping others, but not in getting rich. He did not even patent most of his work because he considered his ideas as gifts from God, and that they should be free to others.
You can do many things if you are determined and persistent. If you want to succeed, you have to first determine that you will not give up and you will achieve your goal! Carver first wanted to be an artist, but God had a greater plan. Although I may have a plan for my life, I have to trust God because he has a bigger and better plan for me. You can make many products out of peanuts. I wonder what other invention could be made from the peanut plant.
