This is what Abraham lincoln set out to accomplish. President Abraham Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. During the civil war, Lincoln gave his famous speech in the National Cemetery in Gettysburg to honor the soldiers who lost their lives in what people believe to be one of the ugliest battles of the war..
