The Gettysburg Address Abraham Lincoln tells the Union in the Gettysburg Address that they have come to dedicate the land of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to the fallen soldiers following the bloody battle that took place. He also uses his speech, however, to promote the Union by mentioning the past and the future instead of the present.
