Global Warming Persuasive Essay

1029 Words5 Pages

Our planet is getting warmer and warmer day by day. According to Statista.com, in 2016 the surface temperature was 0.94 degree Celsius (33.629 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer than the 20th century average. If temperatures keeps going up, then our world could be so hot that it cannot sustain life. Our atmosphere naturally traps heat to make Earth’s climate warm enough to sustain life, the sunlight shines onto the Earth’s surface where it is absorbed and then it is reflected off into the atmosphere. In the atmosphere the greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide, and methane, trap some of the heat and sends rest into space. When there are more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, then they will trap more heat and the planet will become hotter. We are …show more content…

Our body can’t adapt to the changing climate fast enough. One example is from an article and according to the article called What Climate Change Means for California, it said that “High air temperatures can cause heat stroke and dehydration, and affect people’s cardiovascular, respiratory, and nervous systems.” This shows that our bodies can’ handle the heat which is getting hotter and hotter. It is also known that intense heat can cause major organ damage, especially in children, the elderly, the sick, and the poor. Another example is why global warming is harmful to our health is because of vector-borne diseases. According to Wait, Why is Climate Change a Bad Thing?, vector-borne diseases come from vectors which are mosquitoes, fleas, mites, and ticks. These thrive in warmer weather so as the climate gets warmer, more of these vectors will spread vector-borne diseases like Dengue fever, Lymphatic filariasis, and Yellow fever Zika. These diseases can be cured but sometimes can be fatal. Also, an article called The Impacts of Climate Change on Human Health in the United States: A Scientific Assessment said that “Ticks… will show earlier seasonal activity and a generally northward expansion in response to increasing temperatures associated with climate change” This quote shows that due to climate change the vectors can have an increase in population. So if the climate continues to change we can have an increase in deaths due to vector-borne disease, and heat related health
