Global Warming: The Science And The Controversy

587 Words3 Pages

Did you know that every day 38.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide is released into the earth’s atmosphere and the United States is the second biggest polluter in the world (Carbon Dioxide Emissions Rise to 2.4 Million Pounds per Second)? Global warming is the heating up of the earth’s average temperature causing the climate to be warmer too. EPA stands for the Environmental Protection Agency, who preserves the environment. EPA believes that the temperatures will continue to increase. Global warming is a very controversial topic some people believe that it is human’s fault and others believe that it is caused naturally (Global Warming: The Science and the Controversy). Humans are speeding up the process of global warming since it would have happened …show more content…

Power plants create electricity for people, but they cause forty percent of carbon dioxide that is discharged from the United States (Global Warming: The Science and the Controversy). Power Plant's work by turning water into steam, and since steam particles are further apart from each other than water it causes the turbine generators to move which creates power. Once the steam has been used to create power it has to go somewhere and so the power plant releases a cloud of steam that contains carbon dioxide in it. Automobiles burn gas and then the exhaust lets out carbon dioxide. Automobiles cause thirty three percent of carbon dioxide emissions. Airplanes cause three and a half percent of global warming. Deforestation is the clearing of trees by a forest fire or by the cutting of the trees. Deforestation is twenty five percent of the global carbon dioxide. One thing that power plants, automobiles, airplanes, and deforestation all have in common is carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, meaning it cannot escape the earth's atmosphere and the more that humans use it the warmer the earth will get (Global Warming: The Science and the Controversy). Some people believe that global warming is caused soli by people because they release a profusion amount of carbon dioxide into the
