The Controversial Issue Of Global Warming And Climate Change

1057 Words5 Pages

Global warming and climate change is a polarizing and controversial issue that many people have strong opinions about. There is a strong debate in our society about the threat level posed by global warming and climate change. In reality, global warming and climate change is a real and valid threat to society because of higher temperatures, changing landscapes and wildlife habitat, rising seas, economic impact, increased risk of storms, droughts, and floods, and much more! The human population are at the most critical moment in history; because Earth is at its worst condition. (ever) Scientific research proves an overall and significant warming trend which will have a direct impact on human civilization. In the United States alone, half of its …show more content…

We as humans are the ones who burn fossil fuels and clear trees that absorb carbon dioxide, sending heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere. During the past century, human activities have released large amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. (Most of the gases come from burning fossil fuels) Greenhouse gases are like an imaginary blanket around the Earth. (trapping energy in the atmosphere and causing it to warm) This is called the greenhouse effect and it is natural and necessary to support all life on earth. However, while greenhouse gases build up, the climate changes and result in dangerous effects to human health and ecosystems. In fact, global warming is already having significant and costly effects on our communities, our health, and our climate. Unless people immediately take action to reduce global warming emissions, these impacts will continue to get worse, become more costly and damaging, and increasingly affect the whole planet in a very negative manner. Dangerously hot weather is already occurring more frequently than it did 60 years ago and scientists expect heat waves to become more frequent and severe as global warming gets worse and intensifies as time goes on. This increase in heat waves creates very serious health risks, and can lead to heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and aggravate existing medical conditions to regular healthy people. This will mean many deaths for people. Not only are humans being affected by this; but also animals. The warming of our climate is causing the ocean to fail. The reason for this is because of increased temperatures, which is causing mass deaths in fish, marine life, and the dangerous overgrowth of algae. Many people mostly connect global warming with ice melting and
