According to Gallup poll, sixty-three percent of Americans don't believe that climate change will seriously affect their way of life (Evans). Among those Americans, one in particular stands out. In 2016, the country voted for a president that does not believe in Climate change. President Donald Trump has been said that climate change is a hoax and has already began actions to stop policies put in place by the Obama administration to regulate Climate change. Although Americans and the public do not believe in climate change, there is physical evidence that explains otherwise. Climate change is a change in global or regional climate patterns attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil …show more content…

However, the current warming cycle has more significance because it is most likely due to involvement by humans (“Climate”). Human actions include the mass amounts of carbon dioxide that are released by burning of fossil fuels. Too much carbon dioxide (CO2) causes the “greenhouse effect” to take place. The greenhouse effect refers to the trapping of the sun’s radiation by the atmosphere. Certain gases, especially CO2, prevent heat from escaping and trap heat, which increase the surface temperature. The Greenhouse effect is not actually all bad, there must be certain amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere so some heat is trapped and then can be absorbed to keep the surface of the earth habitable. The NASA article states the CO2 from humans have risen, “The industrial activities that our modern civilization depends upon have raised atmospheric carbon dioxide levels from 280 parts per million to 400 parts per million in the last 150 years” (“Climate”). This information shows that before the industrial activities there were no signs of climate change but now we are seeing indicators of climate change resulting from the mass amounts of CO2 in the …show more content…

Along with a lot of the public, people do not believe climate change is serious and will affect their life. The author of the Global Issues published article “Climate Change and Global Warming Introduction,” Anup Shah states that climate change poses a serious risk to food production and world hunger, and air quality. The author states that due to the changing climate crop yields and droughts will be affected (Shah). Without enough food and the risk of droughts, parts of the world will starve and will cause numerous deaths. The climate change also is a serious issue that affects the future of the earth. Glaciers and ice caps are melting increasing sea levels, destroying ecosystems and organisms’ habitats. These are irreversible damages that are being caused by the change in climate. However, there are people who believe that climate change is not a severe issue. People like author, Andrew Freedman argue that climate change is not as dangerous as once thought. The Global Warming article “New Research Suggests That Global Warming Will Still Be Dangerous, Though Not Extremely So” states that studies show that climate change is at manageable level. The author states that increasing the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere can increase temperature of the earth, whereas reducing them can put the planet into a deep freeze (Freedman). The two different viewpoint contrast in the way they
