In the poem ‘’Goblin Market’ ’the theme of religion is portrayed and relates to Islam temptations. In the poem, Lizzie and Laura are sisters who are tempted by the goblins who use sweet language to persuade them to try out their fruits. This relates to the story of Adam and Eve, who are tempted by Satan to taste God’s forbidden fruits. The serpent uses sweet language to entice them. They both face the consequences of their actions after eating the fruits. Several stanzas of the poem portray the theme of religion in relation to Islam stories. Religion is imperative as it relates to the way of life of people in the society. People follow religion, and abide by its rules to help them in deciding their values and norms.
Falling into temptations is one of the main subjects in Islam. It is portrayed by the goblins act and in the fruits that they sell. The two sisters in the poem have to face the daily temptation from the goblins. The goblins own a fruit business which is situated near a brook where the two sisters collect water. The goblins describe them as fresh, full, fine and sharp. “Our grapes fresh from the vine, Pomegranates full and fine, Dates and sharp bullaces, Rare pears and greengages, Damsons and bilberries, ”. Persuasive language is used in order to control emotions and form appeals to the heart. The language tries to create sense and logic. The goblins use language that is sweet to the ears and gestures that are very sound to the eye. Laura is easily tempted but her sister Lizzie warns her. She says that they should be very careful and not let the goblin’s offers charm them.
