The Thousand and One Nights is a text built from many texts that took stories from various cultures across Asia and North Africa. It was written by several unknown authors that were scattered over many centuries and countries of the Middle East. This text began with the king’s biggest disappointment towards his promiscuous wife, consequently, he put her to death. Because of that deception, every night that would go by he would have a new wife and by the next morning she would be put to death. The vizier’s daughter stepped up and said “I would like you to marry me to King Shahrayar, so that I may either succeed in saving the people or perish and die like the rest” (pg. 562).

One night, Thaljiyeh’s father had taken notice of his wife’s jealousy of Thaljiyeh and was brought to the conclusion that it was his wife who was making her do all the chores. He had arrived at this conclusion before, but always though that his wife would not do this to her. But what could he do about it. He first thought that he could send her to live with her grandmother, but then thought who would do the work around the house, surely not his wife or step-daughters. He eventually arrived at the conclusion that there would be no winners if he sent her away.
The story argues family issues and strong connection between family members. It also mention that how family members are dealing with problems. For instance, when İnce Memed left the village, he could not stop thinking of his mother because he left his mother behind as well, so he felt guilty. The reason for his returning to village is that land owner Abdi Ağa murders his mother. Memed is very angry with him so he vow to take the revenge.
Instead of the conflict of the story being between a husband and wife, the conflict is between a mother and a daughter. In the beginning of the story, we can see the obvious conflict between the two. The mother is what one might consider to be strict or abusive or maybe even just tough love. Many times, throughout the story, the mother is said to have hit or choked her daughter. Because of this, the daughter has turned into a disobedient girl and will do anything to go against the wishes of her mother.
