This article discusses John James DeAngelo Jr.'s real life as the "Golden State Killer," a moniker he is known as.Mr. DeAngelo was born on Thursday, November 8, 1945 and is regarded as one of the worst serial killers in American history. He was a child of a broken family; and as a child, John witnessed his sister being sexually abused, which greatly influenced his behavior, which included the torturing and slaughtering of animals. When DeAngelo and his siblings were young, their mother and father both abused and neglected them. Prior to enrolling in college and obtaining a degree in criminal justice and police science, he briefly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. While still primarily residing in Auburn, he began traveling to the Los Angeles area in order to commit a new wave of crimes, almost all of which would entail homicide. On October 1, 1979, DeAngelo made his first journey to Southern California, but his victims had left, so he had to leave empty-handed. On December 30, he committed his first Original Night Stalker murders, murdering a doctor and his wife. After hiding for the next four months, he murdered a young couple in an urban neighborhood of Los Angeles on August 19.
