The Importance Of A Good Leadership How long does one think they would be able to stay on an island without a good leader with multiple young boys ranging ages 6-12 years old as a young boy that has not matured enough to be out living on his own with others in the same conditions? The defining moment when Jack decided that he did not want to play under Ralphs rules anymore and became his own leader and took some of the boys with him is the moment when the boys became more savage and were killing and not following rules. The island and the boys needed a good leader to help them with everything that they needed on the island. Being a good leader is not just telling people what to do and supporting them, it also comes with having to make decisions and some can be very hard, it also comes with making rules for them to follow. Good leaders will make decisions even if they are hard and seem bad at that point, but they know it will help them in the future. Rules are very important and with good leaders comes good rules for everybody to follow so that there would not be as much chaos happening.Without any rules in place the boys will do whatever they want whenever because there are no rules or adults telling them what to do and what not to do. Good leaders need to make hard decisions such as when Ralph was leader right when they got to the island he took the role of leader and started by blowing the conch, gathering everybody and making rules for them like starting the fire, exploring the island to see “If this isn’t an island we might be rescued straight away.”(Golding 23) and try to find food. Ralph showed good leadership there because he made the hard decision to not just have fun, party and play around on the island like Jack did, Ralph set his priorities straight and focused on trying to get rescued.
