How familiar are people with identifying a mental illness? There are so many people that are living with a disorder or mental illness and do not even know. “The Good Son” is a movie about a young boy named Henry who shows many symptoms of antisocial personality disorder also know as sociopathy. In the movie it starts off with another young boy named Mark whose mother dies in the beginning. After the death of his mom Marks dad decides to take a business trip to Tokyo and decides to take Marks to his aunt and uncles house for two weeks. They arrive, and Mark sees he has another cousin around the same age as him (Henry), and they hit it off soon as they meet each other. Henry continues to do other devious things in the movie like trying to kill his sister twice by throwing her on thin ice while ice skating. She falls into the water, him acting like he tries to save her but gives no effort at all, and when she is saved goes to the hospital to try and smother her, until he sees his mom is there. When he realizes she is there he just makes it look like he was checking on her. Mark tries to tell his aunt of Henry’s behavior, but she does not believe him. Henry then contaminates or tries to make it look like he contaminates all the food in the house, when Mark notices he tries to throw everything out and Henry makes his parents think Mark is going crazy. In the end Mark also tries to kill his mother when she finds out he killed his younger brother which did not happen in the movie. He pushes her over a cliff, Mark jumps in trying to save here and they fight, falling over the cliff as well. Henrys mom making her way back up catches both. It does show how Henrys family is affected in many ways. Henrys mom is affected because Henry killed her other son and it takes a toll on her many times in the movie. She becomes emotional more than once and she is stuck on leaving everything like it is in his memory, like not touching or going into his room. As far as Henrys dad and sister it did not affect them besides seeing the mom have so much hurt and sadness. It also affects the whole family at the end because Henry ends up dying because of a choice he made, leaving the family to deal with the death of two sons. People must take the time to learn the symptoms and behaviors of different illness and disorders to know how to identify and deal with these people. The film is suited best for no one in particular, it is something everyone should watch being able to learn about a different illness. In this movie Mark never gives up in trying to expose Henrys behavior to everyone around him even though he knows it could put himself in harm. One message is that no matter how hard it may be never give up when trying to help someone with a mental disorder or issue, it could save a life in the
