Google’s definition of literacy is the ability to read and write. We as humans are not born literate. We begin the journey as soon as we open our eyes and hear people's voices. I thank my parents for teaching me how to speak and read basic words and sentences before I started school. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today. When I started school reading and writing were my least favorite subjects because I didn’t understand it very well. I was never confident in what I had to say, and unlike other students I could never stay on topic with my narratives. It wasn’t until eighth and tenth grade when I had grasped an understanding of these subjects and started to realized how everything operated.
In elementary school, I didn’t write near as much as I do now but I had to read every day. Considering I had to answer questions after the selection, I had no choice but to read. For some reason, I’ve always struggled with answering questions relating to a piece I had just read. I couldn’t pay attention to the article unless it was something I was interested in, so the questions would sometimes confuse me. Reading out loud was the death of my confidence. English has constantly been an iffy subject to me because it’s always been difficult for me to understand what was correct and what wasn’t in terms of literacy. I notice that it’s becoming easier for me to understand now that I’m continuing to become literate as the days pass by, especially being able to read and write everyday in this college course. I thank everyone who’s helped me out with improving my English, whether if they were a teacher, student, parent, or friend giving feedback. You can never stop improving something you start. I’m definitely looking forward to see where I’ll be at the end of this
