David McCullough, in his Wellesley High School Commencement Address, utilizes imagery to convey to his audience that each individual possesses the same common potential. While addressing the graduating class of 2012, McCullough makes a point to emphasize how unexceptional the students are. By bringing to light the fact that the students are all wearing the same “ceremonial costume…shapeless, uniform, one-size-fits-all” (McCullough 1), he illustrates the conformity of the crowd. By depicting the cap and gown, McCullough demonstrates that each student at the ceremony are at the same level.
Today, John Thornton and I are at the Eldorado Saloon. It’s sixty below zero right now and I am freezing my paws off. Every man here is bragging about their dogs. I think I heard one say his dog could pull 500 pounds.
The trend of going to community colleges is beginning. Community colleges used to be known as the place where all the rejected applicants went. Now, people are realizing that community colleges are just as great as a university. Liz Addison wrote “Two Years Are Better than Four” to help her readers understand the importance of community colleges. The educational path for a student is changing from going straight to a big university to going to a community college and then transferring.
The atmosphere of Schoenfeld Campus Gym had been electrifying Thursday afternoon. The Fall Homecoming Pep Rally included numerous activities for Concordia’s sports team to partake in. For example, one “challenge” involved a member of the sports team getting wrapped up in toilet paper, under the pressure of a time clock. When time ran out, whichever individual was wrapped in the most toilet paper (or looked the most like they had just emerged from an Egyptian pyramid) won that game. The CCNY Pep Rally acted as an opportunity for the rest of the student body to become familiar with our famed athletic program, and to mingle with this elite status of the student.
Before I even stepped into my high school as an official freshman I knew I was going to be a part of my school one way or the other. I made it a goal to be a part of some type of extra-curricular project all four years. This goal I know I have succeeded in because I have been a part of the following extra- curricular projects: three years of SWAT club, four years of Raider Riot, and three varsity sports. All of these extra- curricular projects have made my high school career not only interesting but also made me a better person in the long run. One of the only clubs I was able to be a part of in high school was the SWAT club.
However, I love my school. From creating the Student Council my freshmen year, to serving as Freshmen, Sophomore, and Senior Class President, I work to the best of my abilities to better my school. My junior year, when Noel Community Arts Middle School was in the process of closure, I organized students and invited at
Marching band; copious amounts of people scoff at the sound of those words. I often hear students commenting on how easy marching band is, how we don’t train like the football players do. At Anderson High School, that’s not the case, the marching band trains for just as long. As a band of over 125 individuals, it takes determination, pride, and confidence to achieve the goals we have set forth to accomplish. As a leader of the saxophone section, I know what it’s like to face failure, to overcome and turn it into success and to march on with confidence.
Hi everyone! If you don’t already know me, I’m Kayla Alvarado, and as you all know I’m running for vice president, and asking for your vote today. At this moment, we don’t know who the president will be, however whomever you do choose to vote for, there still needs to be a second voice who’ll listen to those who want to be heard but don’t want to be seen. Perhaps, the president won't be available for all meetings and I’d be a stand in.
Morning everyone! I'm helping David fill in this morning as Marilyn begins her recovery. She's a touchstone of positive encouragement in a world gone wacky and yesterday, those good vibes flowed to her as our pebbles built her a mountain of love. Take it slowly and concentrate on your wellness Miss M, cause we're watching over you.
Good afternoon members of the Board of Trustees, Dean of College, faculty, staff, families, guests, and my fellow graduates. It is a blessing and an honor to stand before you today as respondent of the Class of 2015. Yet, today is not only my day to shine. This is our moment, made possible by the immense sacrifice and effort made by our families and friends. All of which has allowed us to persevere and reach this milestone in our lives.
I am honored to be nominated for Crestwood’s National Honor Society for the 2017-2018 school year. I feel as if I use these four characteristics every day. Scholarship is something that I take for granted. When I think of school, I think it’s easy and all it takes is doing your homework to get good grades.
I felt as though running for the Freshman Class Vice President would be something I would be great at,” Freshman Candidate Taniqua Hanson explains. Signs, posters, and flyers hung around at each table of the candidates to show their platforms and all they had to offer unto their class. There were about 11 candidates present at this event more females running for positions than males which made the elections even more interesting. The young ladies of NCCU are really getting involved in wanting to make a difference.
Lone Star High School is a location where students can feel secure and have many opportunities to showcase their skills and leadership qualities. Our campus is built upon five figurative pillars; Integrity, Strength, Stewardship, Loyalty and Perseverance. These pillars are what make us the admirable school that we are today. I believe everyone of our students must have these five qualities in order to ensure success now and later on in the future. As a student I believe that for one to have integrity they must show signs of righteous ethical morals.
Good afternoon. Elections is your time to choose who you think is fit to lead you. A good student body president possesses qualities such as leadership, creativity, responsibility, dedication, and much more. As a student that has been attending Rio since kindergarten, I believe I am a good candidate for student body president. My achievements include Math Olympiad, Academic Pentathlon, Hazelton awards in third and sixth grade, and a 4.0 GPA.
