Good Afternoon everyone! Welcome to the Arlington National Cemetery. My name is Ashley Becan and I will be your tour guide today. Here in Arlington, Virginia this is one of the most famous cemeteries. This cemetery was built in 1864 the cemetery became a military cemetery. The Arlington Cemetery is one of the most consecrated locations in the United States. More than 300 thousand U.S citizens are buried here. It is also the second largest number of people who were buried there. To be buried at the Arlington Cemetery you have to follow certain requirements. One requirement that you need to have is you had to have been an active duty member of the Armed Forces. Washington also started the construction of the Arlington House. The Arlington House was built in 1804. The House is Robert E. Lee’s memorial. The Arlington Cemetery was picked in the specific location because this property was a military necessity. This land was also picked because it had meaning towards the war. In my opinion Charles Young has a interesting grave because he was one of the first African-American Colonel in the U.S army. Here at Arlington there are also many monuments. For example the President William Howard Taft Monument which was established in 1930. Another interesting monument here is the Space Shuttle Challenger which was created in 1986.
