Monroe died of a barbiturate overdose- A sleeping pill. Monre has not completed another film since The Misfits released in 1961, because Monroe had suffered from mental illness and substance abuse for several years. Monroe spent her last day, Saturday August 4th, at her home in Brentwood, accompanied by publicist Patricia Newcomb, housekeeper Eunice Murray, photographer Lawrence Schiller and psychiatrist Dr Ralph Greenson at various times.”(Death Of Marilyn Monroe). At about 3:00 am on August 5th, Murray noticed that Monroe locked herself in her room. Murray told Greenson. Greensn arrived soon after and broke into the room finding Monroe laying on her bed, with her phone in her hand, dead. She had overdosed on barbiturates. “By the early 1960’s, Monroe had, for several years been dependant on Amphetamines, Barbiturates and alcohol, and experienced various mental health problems, including depression,anxiety, low self-esteem and chronic insomnia.”(Death Of Marilyn Monroe). After being through all that, Monroe was difficult to work with. She was late to film sets, and it took her 60 takes to memorize the line “it 's me sugar.” This behavior affected her career. When Monroe died she was buried in her favorite Emilio dress in what was known as a cadillac casket. Monroe was buried at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park. When Monroe died, she wanted Joe Dimaggio to put flowers on her crypt 3 times a week. So, for 20 years after Monroe 's death, Dimaggio arranged to have roses sent to her crypt 3 times a week.
