“Core competencies are what give a company one or more competitive advantages, in creating and delivering value to its customers in its chosen field.” (Businessdictionary.com, Core Competencies, 2015) Core competency is what sets Grainger apart from its competition. According to their website, it states their six values are “the foundation of our culture.” (Grainger, About Us, 2015) The Grainger website also states that these values drive their business. The company’s values are: teamwork, learning, having fun, ethics and integrity, empowerment and accountability, and agility. (Grainger, About Us, 2015) Grainger’s competitors also have values that they use to run their business. Wolseley, is one of the company’s competitors and their values are: integrity, people, and drive for results and improvement. (Wolseley, 2015) Another one of Grainger’s competitors is HD Supply and there values are customer and market centricity, speed and precision, intense teamwork, process excellence and trusted relationships. Grainger’s uses its employee engagement and diversity to show its uniqueness. Grainger understands that its values and products are the same of the competition, therefore, the company uses it employees to set it apart. According to reseller ratings, Grainger is a nine out of ten star. (Reseller Rating, 2015) In 2011, a consumer wrote a review on Reseller.com, "My company has placed many orders with Grainger over the years. They always ship very quickly. Once a $50 tool kit was missing from my order and they sent another at no charge with no hassle. They have a huge selection of tools and supplies and will continue to receive my business."
