I decided to interview my paternal grandmother for this assignment. I knew that she would be a great candidate because there was a lot that I did not know about her. I’ve heard stories and things from other people, but this gave me the opportunity to hear from the source herself. She loves giving back to the community and those whom are less fortunate. I wanted to gain more insight on how this passion came about and life experiences that had shaped her into the great woman she is today. Theresa was born on January 15, 1963, in the small city of Sandusky, Ohio. She was born to a young mother that was incapable of keeping her. Her father’s parents stepped up to the plate and brought her into their home shortly after birth. Not to mention that they already had nine children and their tenth was in the oven baking. This arrangement lasted for a good seven years then, she was adopted by her maternal grandparents. She has a great sense of confusion when it came to who she actually belonged to. Timing in lives focuses on the social clock and determining whether one is on-time or off-time according to social norms. Even in utero, my granny was considered to be off-time. Her mother was quite young and below the average age for mothers at that time. With her first two children she was off-time since she had them both before she as twenty years old. She did earn her high school diploma on-time though. All these timings are based on what society believes. As my granny says, “it is not about how you begin but how you finish.” She may not have done some things at their appropriate times but if I had not told you, you would have never known. She carries herself and her family in such a prominent way that one could never seek out the flaws unless otherwise
