With this essay, I wish to unequivocally indicate my goal of becoming a physician-scientist and work at the Grant Lab in the summer of 2015. This lab is at number one of my priorities because it will not only provide me with a great introduction to biological research but also allow me to see the conclusion when the action is expressed in c. elegans. It is my conviction that this superior research facility, nurturing academic environment, strong faculty and quality education will fulfill my aspiration to become a scientist with important achievements in the future.
For as long as I can remember, I have dreamt of molecular biology. Where others see pipetting, experimentation, and the presentation of science as a chore, I only find excitement

Grant’s lab for Aresty Summer Science Research for several reasons. First, the Grant lab stands out because there is an emphasis on using model organisms to predict effects in humans, which is so critical in the clinical research process. As previously mentioned, I hope to not only learn and perform new techniques and procedures, but also strengthen my ever-growing ability to approach and solve problems systematically. Even more importantly, the Grant Lab bridges the gap between abstract principles and reality, allowing me to find answers to difficult problems quickly and efficiently using c. elegans. I feel confident in my own potential and its potential to teach me. And after meeting with Dr. Barth Grant and working in the lab, I am further convinced that his summer research program is right for …show more content…
No other career allows me to experience the passion of solving a patient's medical struggles while pursuing research that may translate into a clinical cure for the disease or define the mechanism of that a patient’s disease. In my youth, I suffered from eczema, a severely debilitating skin condition. I went to numerous doctors and was prescribed countless treatments and medication. When all of that did not work, my parents began trying out home remedies like bathing in bleach water or eating different herbs in order to remove the affected skins. None of that helped. It wasn’t until I went to a doctor, Dr. Anne H. Li, M.D. who immediately recognized my condition as eczema and prescribed me the correct medication, my skin was clear. She told me about how she carried out research on many skin conditions in college and was immediately able to recognize what I had. This ability fascinated me because, unlike other doctors, she focused on both a balance of both research and medicine taking time off from her practice to lead or help with research
