1930’s From the Depression to the Franklin Roosevelt
Franklin Delano Roosevelt brought hope as he promised “prompt, vigorous action, and as asserted in his Inaugural Address, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” FDR was the president during the Depression, and from that moment on, he turned America around. The 1930’s featured new fashions, lots of inventions, and unfortunately the Great Depression.
The 1930’s in the United States was a rough time. We had just plunged into the Depression with all the defaulting going on. Not to mention the World War at the end of the decade as well. Everybody was buying shares thinking the money was going to keep going up, and was always going to be there. Then with the Stock Market Crash in 1929, almost everyone went poor. People couldn’t pay back their loans, and banks had little to no money as well. Another problem to go along with the Depression was the Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl was the most devastating for farmers. It ruined crops because of the drought. Animals were also killed, and sometimes buried under piles of dirt alive. Americans used helicopters to carry troops, supplies guns, and ammunition in war (Helicopters). The helicopter was invented in the 1930’s, and had a huge impact on wars as far as the 1950’s, with the same original designs.
