There are many differences between culture in the US and in Greece. Most customs in Greece are religious which widely differ from the US. Easter is one of the most celebrated traditions. For us it's Christmas which comes second for the greeks. The greek orthodox church has significant influence on family and daily life. Most people in Greece are close to and have great relationships with their family. Everyone welcomes each other with a hug and always something to eat or drink. The women of the household usually unifies the family and is the driving force. She is the cook, protector, and main guardian in the family. A key driving factor in greek culture is food. Greek food is made up of mediterranean cuisine. Since Greece is enclosed by water, it's no surprise that its food is so fresh and prosperous in …show more content…

Greek hospitality is the generosity and courtesy shown to those who are not from the area or connections of guest-friendship. Whenever you step foot into someone's house or any event you will be offered food, a drink, and will be asked if you need anything is and if you’re comfortable. This type of hospitality was also played in ancient society. On the contrary, fear of the gods or bad luck was a possible cause of their extreme niceness. I remember freshmen year; in English 9 we read a book called the Odyssey. This story was about a 10 year struggle to return home from the trojan war. Many of the theories and concepts used in the novel were widely seen in Greece relations. Odysseus travels to this one dark abandoned island and is surprised at the amount of Greek hospitality. They bathe him, clothe him, feed, and take care of him as if he’s apart of their family; though he is a washed up complete stranger. I can relate to this by when I traveled alone to Greece last summer for two weeks. I was scared, got lost at points, but thankfully everyone around me was so kind hearted and
