One must briefly look at the Jewish background to attempt to find if there was any evidence that could support the idea that the Jews were sent out into the world to convert others to their religious beliefs. This would lead the way for the Romans to be correct in their assumption that they were going out of their way to collect converts or whether this has been misinterpreted. Coming into this class knowing little to nothing about Greek Mythology, is a weird situation for me; the beliefs of the Greeks seem absurd to me. However, after one day of notes I feel like I have a better grasp on the topic. I have learned that the whole purpose of mythology is to explain the unexplainable; before I just thought it was all for entertainment. Another interesting fact I learned about mythology is that it is used to teach lessons. The main topic I learned the most information from was what the Greeks actually believed; I was unaware that they believe thunder and lightning came from Zeus, and they believed a chariot was pulling the sun across the sky.
This class of gods and goddesses included Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Hermes and Hestia. Now just like the last generation of Titans, each of these possess a new power. I find it very interesting that in Greek Mythology they have so many different gods, all with different powers or possessions, rather than just one almighty god that has it all. For me, I think it would be much easier to pray to one god that can answer all your prayers, rather than having to pray to each god for different reasons. At the same time, I really enjoy the fact that the Greeks have so many gods because I enjoy learning about them and what they did.
Greek and Aztec gods and goddesses played a major role in the religion of their respected ancient societies. The Greek and Aztec people created their gods in order to explain natural occurrences and phenomenons in the world around them. In Greek culture, the gods looked and acted like humans and felt similar emotions, making them easily relatable, while the Aztec gods were viewed completely differently and were not similar to humans at all. However, Greek gods, including Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades have had a much greater impact on today’s society than the Aztec gods, such as Huitzlopochtli, Tlaloc, and Quetzalcoatl. Greek Mythology had a great influence on modern day sports and the olympics, which were held in honor of the gods in ancient Greece.
