From Greek mythology, we can learn about the favorable characteristics of humans, such as their behavior and valuable skills that were approved of by the ancient Greek society.

However, the teachings of each myth can be varied based on where they originated. If the myth came from a polytheistic culture, the myth may be more focus on the nature and ecological lessons.

Although this is technically correct, the true meaning and definition of myth is much narrower. The ancient people, certainly the Greeks felt that deeply passionate feelings were somehow connected in the human mind and emotions where great desires and hatreds were somehow links. It is considered as an expression of childhood experiences, and it also explains the origin and meaning of the world. According to Long (1994), “The term mythology may describe a certain body of myths, for example, Greek, African, or Scandinavian, or it may refer to the study of myths” (p.694). These collections of narratives are superior when it comes to influencing different areas of knowledge. There are numerous types of mythology, but Ancient Greece is the one that has given an immense influence on modern society.

The Greeks in the ancient period were curious about how life worked around them. They needed an explanation to satisfy their curiosity. The Greeks created various myths which answered their questions. Throughout the Greek Mythology the myths of, Phaeton and the fiery steeds, Daedalus and Icarus, Noah’s Ark, Echo and Narcissus and Artemis and Arachne, were created to make the Greeks live within the bounds of good behavior. The Greek mythology taught some valuable moral lessons to make the Greeks wiser and kinder to others.
I would have defined myth as a collection of stories used to entertain readers through the use of literary devices. I would have defined it this way because the word myth makes you think of a fictional story that still serves a purpose in the literary world. Before this class when the word “myth” was said I would immediately think of the Greek Gods and think that these are the only myths of the world. I did not realize that the word myth does not explain a specific set of things but how it explains everything. I would expect cultures that do not have access to much technology to have many myths because this is an excellent way to pass the time.
The night was frigid, and with each breath the brisk scent of winter's kiss fell upon my lips, and with each of her cold, cursing, kisses, came the distant taste of mint.
