While Gadfly correctly highlights that maintaining freedoms entails a careful balancing act, his conclusion that freedom is not a “good thing” does not follow from his premises. It is true that a myriad of freedoms can come into conflict with each other as Gadfly pointed out in his example; however, just because freedoms must be carefully balanced does not mean that freedom is bad. Furthermore, Gadfly shifts from using “freedoms,” which refers to specific rights like speech or religion, to “freedom” which has no clearly delineated definition in the argument thus adding an element of ambiguity which muddies his conclusion. Since Gadfly’s premises were about “freedoms” and his conclusion was about “freedom,” his argument is not logical; however,
INTRO For hundreds of years, history has recorded countless stories and accounts of people that were willing to sacrifice themselves for their cause. Depending on their cause and which side history was recorded determined if they were the heroes or villains of their time. For the most part, these stories were of men or groups of men dedicated to sacrificing their lives for God, country, and/or family. Question # 1 First off, freedom is ultimately the most important priority and right for any individual, the freedom of living here in America were we are protected by our National defense and freedom to choose from right and wrong. With that being said freedom vs order would take precedence over freedom vs equality, without order our country would have no direction, authority or supervision. Unfortunately, the world would run amuc, like barbarians, dominating the streets with the notion that we are all entitled and just as equal as the next. Not to say that equality is of no importance, we all should be treated equally, but only if we are doing what is right.
In newspaper, I learned a lot of lessons. At the beginning of my journalism career, I always gravitated towards assignments that had nothing to do with writing. Despite the fact that I knew I was good with words, I hated the thought of writing something that the whole school could potentially read.

He makes reference to many philosophers in the essay, but there is more emphasis on the thoughts of J. S. Mill and Rousseau, the former being a firm advocate of negative liberty while the latter believes strongly in the ideals of positive liberty.
