Recent Mass shootings and political debates have sparked the country in a significant time for debate and change. There have been 125 mass shootings this year in 2023, about an average of one mass shooting a day.Guns are deeply ingrained in American society and the nation’s political debates. There is a huge debate going on in the United States right now. The debate focuses on the right to bear arms, guaranteed by the Second Amendment of the US Constitution, and the need for stricter regulations to prevent gun-related violence. Many gun owners argue that owning firearms is a fundamental right and a means of self-defense but due to recent gun violence a majority of the country wants immediate action on Gun laws.

When comparing the United States to other developed countries like Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom the United States struggles with high levels of gun violence. The United States compared to most other countries has been struggling with gun violence recently. Some of these countries also struggled with gun violence in the past but have made major reforms in their laws to prevent future gun violence. For example during 1996 in a Scottish town located in Britain a man armed with four guns killed 16 schoolchildren and a adult being committing suicide . This incident sparked a campaign which later led to a ban of handguns and the government took away many guns and got rid of many illegal guns. However Many of the police officers in the UK do not carry firearms and guns are only used in specific incidents. Similar to the British in 1996 most U.S citizens are asking and signing petitions for Gun law reforms. The main argument on why gun control laws should not be reformed is because The Second Amendment gives Americans the right to bear arms. Although the Second Amendment is important it is outdated when comparing the guns we have now compared to when it was made and should be reformed or changed. In 1791 you could fire only once every thirty seconds, and now you can fire fifteen times or more in a few seconds with assault rifles.
