In 1986, a United States postal service worker killed 15 people in his post office. In 2012, a young man open fired in a movie theatre and killed 12 people. In this same year, a young man killed his own mother and some students and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary. Due to cases such as these, supporters of gun control do not believe that the state governments do enough, whereas gun rights advocates believe that the laws are too much. On either side of the argument, people want to reduce the rates of gun violence. Many people believe that increasing gun regulation will decrease rates of gun violence, but it is possible to achieve the same effect by reducing regulation.

Violence accounts for nearly 1.4 million deaths per year worldwide. As tighter legislation is passed and arrests increase, the incarceration rate rises. Illegal acts of drug use and crime increases, which causes gun violence to increase because people are trying to protect themselves from law enforcements. There is also a theory that states that the reason why people commit illegal acts is because it is illegal. There is something about being told not to do something that causes a person to be more inclines to do that particular thing. The government should provide stress-relieving events or create classes that deal with stress to help with the growing need of young teenagers. The statistics that people use to support gun laws includes suicide deaths due to guns. However, they should not use suicide deaths when determining the percentage of those who die from gun violence. People have a natural right to do as they want with their lives, so committing suicide should not be a factor in gun violence. No one harmed them and it was their own choice. A mass murder is “one aggressor that kills at least 4 others in a 24 hour period.” Thus, a person committing suicide is not an example of someone practicing gun
