Gun violence is responsible for roughly 30,000 deaths in the United States each year. Many of these deaths could have been prevented by common sense gun laws that most countries have. It is very easy for anyone in the United States to buy a gun with very little questioning. This leniency in gun laws leads to firearms falling into the arms of criminals, terrorists, and mentally unstable people. In my essay I will be talking about how stricter gun laws have proven successful in many other countries, the true meaning of the Second Amendment, and how stricter gun laws will lead to lower homicide and suicide rates.
Of the 2,626,418 deaths in the United States each year, 30,000 of them are cause by gun violence. Stricter gun laws have proven to result in fewer homicide and suicide rates in many countries. In Australia, there were 0.16 firearm homicides in 2013. In Australia, people can only purchase a firearm if they show the actual need for one and explain why they need a firearm.
