Lights up on an exquisite mansion in Albany, New York in the mid-1700’s. Inside the heavily furnished living room next to a roaring fire, sat a very happy family, talking, laughing, and playing. The parents, by the names of Philip Schuyler and Catherine Van Rensselaer Schuyler, sat in large, plush chairs. Four of their seven children by the names of Angelica, Elizabeth (called Eliza), Margarita (called Peggy), and Philip sat on the floor around them. The family was rich, powerful, and widely loved. Elizabeth, their second child, sat playing with her sister, Angelica from whom she had grown almost inseparable. The heartbreak and hurt that was ahead of her now perfect life loomed unsuspectingly in the near future.

Or true love? Well, Eliza did and she found it. At the age of 22, Eliza laid eyes upon Alexander Hamilton at a small party. He was a very handsome aide of George Washington and a political genius. Eliza instantly fell head over heals in love. Eliza managed to get Hamilton alone and soon enough they were talking the night away. Soon after they met, Hamilton and Eliza were exchanging love letters daily. They both wanted to get married and begin their life together, but one problem stood in their way. Even though Hamilton was a genius, he was an immigrant from the Caribbean, had no parents, and was extremely poor. Eliza’s parents wanted Eliza to marry someone who would get far in life, but who was also rich. Hamilton only provided one of these. Every summer, Eliza would take her children up to Albany, New York to visit her parents. Hamilton would insist on staying home, claiming he had too much work to do. In the summer of 1791, 11 years after they were married, Hamilton did the unforgivable. One night, 23-year-old Maria Reynolds showed up at Hamilton's door. She told him that her husband James Reynolds had abandoned her. She pleaded Hamilton for money and escort home. Being the kind person he was, Hamilton gave her a small amount of money and took her home. But, once they made it to her house, instead of leaving, Hamilton went inside with her and began what was later called the Hamilton-Reynolds affair. Hamilton and Maria kept seeing each other for almost three years after that. Hamilton thought nobody knew, but boy was he wrong. It turned out James Reynolds, Maria's husband knew about the affair the whole time. James threatened to tell everybody, including Eliza about the affair if Hamilton did not pay for his silence. James blackmailed Hamilton for so long, Hamilton had to pay about $1000 to James, which is about $18,319 today. After three years of this going on, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, and Aaron Burr found the large amounts of money missing from Hamilton that was given the James Reynolds. They confronted him, assuming he had taken the government's money and used
