Hamlet is a tragedy of revenge and it this will be argued further with reference to Hamlet as a whole.
The play “Hamlet” is built upon the tragic conflict between Hamlet and Claudius and this conflict is built upon the motif of revenge for Hamlets father. The paly tells the story of a sons struggle to avenge his father’s murder. The first indication of tragedy is when Hamlet finds out that his father has been murdered and his mother has remarried his uncle Claudius. Hamlet hears that a ghost resembling his father is haunting the castle and he seeks it out. The ghost tells Hamlet that he is his dead fathers and that he was murdered by Claudius. He appeals to Hamlet to seek revenge for his murder “And so I am revenged. That would be scanned.”

Hamlet introduces the idea that “It is not, nor it cannot come to good…” We see throughout the paly that Hamlet has a difficult time with perusing his plan that makes us come to the conclusion that Hamlet is a man of inaction rather than a man of action. This leads to Hamlets pose as if he is mad when he is merely trying to divert attention away from his plot “Though this be madness, yet there is method in't.”, this in itself is a tragedy because if we analyze further we realize that there was next to no time for Hamlet to actually mourn the loss of his father. The “ false “ madness ultimately leads to Polonius’ death as it is the fact that Polonius assumes that Hamlets cause for his distress is that he is love sick for
