When the Underground Railroad was operational there was an important conductor who was also very well known: her name was, Harriet Tubman. She would proceed each mission with an extreme level of caution every time, making sure no one was caught. Which allowed her to be very successful in these missions. Her cautiousness was shown within the story “Harriet Tubman: Conductor on the Underground Railroad” which was written by Ann Petry. She would show multiple examples of different writing techniques to fully describe Tubman’s character and some examples of the techniques are, the use of imagery, the use of parallelism, along with the use of allusions to indirectly reference something or someone.
Known as the “Conductor of Freedom'', Harriet Tubman was one of the most influential and important leaders during the abolitionist movement in the United States. Tubman played a pivotal role in the movement as her commitment and fearless actions made her a beacon of hope for tons of enslaved people during the 1800s. She was a true driving force behind the fight against slavery. Her name is largely associated with the traits of courage, determination, and resilience. She was able to contribute a large amount to the abolitionist movement, experienced great trials and tribulations throughout her journeys, and also inspired hundreds of people from all over to join the movement as well.

During her journey, she displayed characteristics such as courage, persistence, and great discipline. To this day, it is told that Tubman never lost a single figurative while leading them to freedom. She also contributed to the movement by being active in the civil war. According to “Harriet Tubman by way.org”, when the civil war began she started her work as a cook and a nurse and overtime made her way up to an armed scout and spy. The last way she intervened with the movement, according to “National Museum of African American History and Culture” was by becoming the first ever woman to lead an armed expedition in the war.
She grew up doing physical labor for her master. When she was old enough, she married a black man. Eventually, her master died, which led her to make the biggest decision of her life. She decided that “there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty or death; if I could not have one, I would have the other”(Harriet Tubman). And so, Tubman decided to escape.

Harriet Tubman was born as Araminta Ross around 1822, as they did not track the birth date of enslaved people (BGE). She was born into slavery, and at the age of 5 was hired out to do child-care (BGE). At 27 years old, she decided that she would escape slavery, escaping on foot, only traveling when the skies were dark enough to see stars. She followed north-south traveling streams and rivers to help her reach freedom.

Harriet Tubman was a historical figure that was courageous, determined, and a awesome leader that helped slaves escape from their masters according to the text “A Glory over Everything”. Harriet Tubman’s traits played a role in her deciding to escape from slavery. One of the traits that helped Harriet Tubman escape slavery was courageous. Harriet Tubman was courageous to go back and forth helping slaves to freedom. Also, she had a bounty on her head, but she still helped all those slaves to escape.
Tubman emerged as a leader because she used her differences as an advantage. The first difference was she has already escaped slavery. An example that shows this is, " Harriet Tubman was born into slavery in Maryland in 1820 and successfully escaped in 1849," (Petry 1). This difference allowed Harriet to emerge as a leader because she knows the routes to get to the North and what not to do to avoid getting caught. The second difference betweeen Tubman and her followers was the level of commitement.
Born in 1822, Harriet Tubman was an influential leader to many people. She is most popularly known for being the “conductor” of the underground railroad. Her determination contributed to the abolition movement, and despite the risks and setbacks she faced on this risky journey she never gave up and continued the long journey to free slaves and give them a new life. Her story was so inspirational that even more people believed that slavery should be abolished. Her determination was a big contribution to the abolition movement.
Harriet Tubman once said “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world” (Tubman,Quote). Harriet Tubman is one of the most known conductor of the Underground Railroad who believed in the freedom of all slaves. She had big dreams that required her to have strength, patience, and passion; due to her having those characteristics her involvement in civil disobedience was a success.

Most people enjoy these basic freedoms and do not think much of it, but for most people it has not always been like that. Harriet Tubman was a former slave who ended up being a vital part of the abolition of slavery. Tubman was a trailblazer among her peers, was determined to fight for the freedom of slaves, and was overall a great person. Harriet Tubman's fearlessness, the way she fought through various accounts of adversity, and her overall ability to be an outstanding leader, while knowing she could face severe circumstances is what makes her such an inspirational figure.

Being responsible for the lives of others is no easy feat. Harriet Tubman, an American abolitionist and social activist, was faced with the job of doing just that. In my opinion, she was a soldier and a true American hero, saving many lives in the fight against slavery.
