You may ask, what is a hero? A hero is one who puts others before him or herself. When a hero does something for another person, they do it because they are trying to be a good person; not expecting anything in return. Heroes do not always do something for another person that makes them happy, but they usually try, heroes also face challenges with the mentality of getting the job done, and when they do their jobs for the other people, they do not expect any recognition A hero does things for others even if it means sacrificing their needs to get the job done. For instance, Frederick Douglass was determined to get others to turn against slavery. Douglas shares his ideas about being a former slave and an abolitionist inspiring others to join the movement (SB, 71). Therefore, Douglass was considered a hero, in the North’s eyes, because he didn’t care if people hated on him because of his ideas, he just kept persevering. Furthermore, Harriet Tubman could be considered a hero because of her actions when she got fed up with being treated bad just because she was African American. What she did was run away from her “owner” and helped some of her family, friends, and strangers run away too because she knew how if felt. This made Tubman a hero because she did what she and others thought were the right thing and she stuck with that idea no matter what. Likewise, scientists who dedicate all their time and effort towards finding the cure for a disease (SB, 64). They are dedicated and determined to help find cure not only for themselves but everyone else too. Heroes are essential to this world because if there was not any heroes, then there would not be anyone to look up to and
