Behind every strong government, company, or association is an even stronger leader. To become a successful leader, one must possess beneficial qualities, such as courage, selflessness, and confidence. Some of the world’s most infamous leaders were seen to be the complete opposite and often show traits of fear, selfishness, and cowardness. It has been seen, time and time again that most prosperous of leaders, are not the ones that are after a personal gain from their position. Although, throughout centuries leaders have all showed a great deal of qualities that are vital for success, one of the most important qualities being courage, is showed in many ways other than just as acts of courage, but also moral courage and inspiring courage in their …show more content…

Even centuries ago leaders were showing their couragouesness. In the late 1840’s, Harriet Tubman was one of those leaders. Tubman, ultimately left her family to do something only few ever thought of doing, which was helping slaves of southern states to their freedom. She made her way to the southern states by traveling in the underground railroad, going back and forth at least 19 times, giving hundreds of slaves their freedom in places such as Canada. Her family believed she should stop and stay home, but she refused to let innocent people be held in such poor conditions with such harsh treatment. Throughout her trips, not one slave was caught on her watch. Neither was she, even though a reward for turning her in went up to as high as forty thousand dollars (“Harriet Tubman”). She risked her life for many years on end to save people she didn’t even know. She showed courage by going back and forth in the underground railroads as a free black to save the lives of black slaves. She could’ve just stood back and watched others, but instead she stepped up to courageously lead people who had the same beliefs as her, to help hundreds of slaves, who were injusticely
