The Columbine Shooting was an unforeseen tragic event that transpired on April 20, 1999. The shooting was labeled as a massacre that devastated not only the city of Columbine, but the state of Colorado and the whole nation. It is these types of tragic scenarios that make society question the security of the school, and the ease of obtaining guns in the United States.
Two senior students, Eric Harris (18) and Dylan Klebold (17) found to be the only two perpetrators during the massacre. Harris and Klebold carefully planned the attack, with use of guns and explosive devices. Harris and Klebold created two propane bombs that they made themselves. The seniors arrived at the school separately but both of them had two duffle bags containing the bombs with a timer. They proceeded to go back to their cars to wait for the bombs to go off. When they realized the bombs weren’t going to detonate they went on a killing spree. The two seniors murdered 12 students and one teacher thirty minutes into the attack. Zoloft and Luvox are often used to treat people suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Both anti-depressants are a part of a top 10 list of violence inducing prescription drugs. It is the belief that Harris had become consumed with anger, violent and suicidal thoughts while taking his prescribed medication. Klebold, on the other hand, has supposedly been seen by his peers taking Paxil and Zoloft, both anti-depressants. Due to Klebolds medical records being sealed, the investigation was unable to conclude whether or not Klebold was under any influence at the time of the attack.
