David Benjamin Mrs. Brenner’s Class Period 7 English 8th Advanced 31 March 2015 The Sandy Hook Massacre Many young people have been diagnosed with depression; they show feelings of depression through acting out and bullying. The extreme example of this is hurting others through the use of weapons and force. These actions can also be taken out of depression from having diseases including autism and challenges with development. One twenty-year old, Adam Lanza, lived with autism and severe developmental issues. Adam murdered twenty-seven children and adults on December fourteenth, two-thousand twelve. Adam Lanza lived in Sandy Hook, Connecticut. Adam was born on April twenty-second, nineteen-ninety two. Through his early life, Lanza experienced social and emotional issues. Dylan’s death caused his parents to move to a new house. At the time of Dylan’s death, they were renting a house near the location of Adam Lanza’s residence. After two years, Mrs. Hockley told reporters, “Everywhere we go there are reminders. I will usually go out of my way not to drive by where the school used to be.” (Murray) Mrs. Hockley is a full-time employee of Sandy Hook Promise, an organization that attempts to protect children from violence like that which killed her son. Dylan’s brother, Jake, experienced much difficulty coping with the death of his brother, Dylan. Jake is still in therapy and has still been devastated with the death of his six year-old brother. Since the shooting, Jake’s grades have dropped severely. The shooting has had similar effect on many of the families of those involved in the deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The old elementary school and the Lanza’s home have since been demolished. A new Sandy Hook elementary school is set to be opened in 2016.
