On April 19th, 1995, the bombing of Oklahoma City was the deadliest act of terrorism within the United States of America prior to September 11th of 2001, when the planes crashed into the World Trading Center in Manhattan New York City. The Oklahoma City bombing remains to be the deadliest act of domestic terrorism in the history of America. The main bomber’s name was Timothy McVeigh, age 26, and he had a build up of anger against the US federal government, which led him to bombing the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Timothy McVeigh was one of the three people associated with this crime, the other two people were Terry Nichols, age 40 and Michael Fortier, age 26. He was sentenced to 161 consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole, he's in prison for the rest of his life. Michael Fortier and his wife Lori Fortier were considered accomplices for their foreknowledge of the planning of the bombing. Lori had helped Timothy McVeigh laminate a fake driver’s licence which was later used to rent the Ryder truck moving truck. Michael Fortier agreed to testify against Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols in exchange for a reduced sentence and immunity for his wife. Fortier was sentence twelve years in prison and a $75,000 for failing to warn authorities about the attack. After serving ten and a half years of his sentence, including time already served, Fortier was released for good behavior into witness protection program and was given a new identity. As for Timothy McVeigh he was euthanized June 11th, 2001, as for Terry Nichols he still remains in prison till the day he dies. The main cause for all of the destruction was a rented out Ryder’s moving truck filled with hundreds of homemade pipe and gasoline tank bombs, with the help of Timothy McVeigh and Michael Fortier filling the back of the truck with many of the deadly homemade bombs, Timothy McVeigh then drove the armed and very deadly truck outside to the back of a United States federal building, and then detonated the truck. it destroyed half the building, the whole north side of the federal building was destroyed. The bombing left a sixteen block radius of destruction, over 300 hundred buildings were damaged including the Journal Record building five blocks away. A side from the few commercial buildings that were destroyed, there was also a day care which had been filled with 21 kids ranging from the ages of two to five years of age. Out of those 21 kids, 19 of them were killed by the deadly bomb the other kids were hurt. Many other people were hurt and killed but it’s a bigger impact on America when children are killed and greatly impacts America physically and
