Dear J.K. Rowling, Hello! I am Ellyanna Page, and I’m an 8th grade student at Shadow Ridge Middle School. I read your book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone due to my love for Harry Potter ever since I was little. In this letter, I am hoping to learn more about your book and even tell you about a few observations I made while reading it. To begin, there were a couple of incidents that occurred that continued the plot throughout the entire book. For example, in chapter 4, when Hagrid arrives, if it weren’t for the Dursleys leaving their old home on number four, Privet Drive, Hagrid would not have been able to “discreetly” bring Harry to Hogwarts. In addition, another event that really drove the plot forward was Halloween, and the troll showing up. My first question is did the book at all mirror something that had happened in your life? For example, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone states, “The Dursleys shuddered to think what the neighbors would say if the Potters arrived in the street. The Dursleys knew that the Potters had a small son, too… This boy was another good reason for keeping the Potters away… didn’t want Dudley mixing with a child like that” (Page 2). I used this quote because I was wondering if by any chance you had a family in your neighborhood like the Dursleys or if you and your family was the Dursleys. Furthermore, I had one other question while reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. My final question regarding this is, did anything surprise you about yourself as you were writing the book? For instance, the book states, “‘The four houses are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin” (Page 114). I used this quote because when you made these houses for Harry Potter, did you get to know yourself better by making them? Or was it just personalities you had seen throughout your
