I have never had a movie make me feel and re-think about life the way Milk did. Harvey Milk was the first openly gay elected official from San Francisco California. He had no idea how much he was about to change the world. Milk felt that he needed to be the voice for people who didn’t have a voice for themselves. He faced many challenges trying to become and elected official, but he never let that stop he only saw the positives. Even when he lost his first few elections he focused on the more votes they received then the previous election, and he took that as sooner than later he would get enough votes to actually win. Harvey was so passionate and determined that he came across as selfless because he was putting everyone else before himself. He would receive death threats; if he were to speak publicly he would be shot. That never stopped him from getting up on stage and speaking for the people. From the past few movies we have watched from class like The Candidate and The Ideas of March we saw how politicians and the people working on their campaigns changed. In the Candidate they have the handsome young man running for office and saying all the right things, and he creates this ideal of what a politician should look like. In Milk, Harvey’s he changes his image from a full-face beard, long hair, and bell bottoms to fresh shave, haircut and new suit man. He did this because he wanted to be taken more seriously as he became more involved. He even lost himself along the way because he was putting the people first. He even fell into the stereotype that politicians are playboys. In the Ideas of March, Morris sleeps and impregnates his intern.
