Imagine it: endless beaches, breathtaking views, warm tropical breeze, and soft sand beneath your feet. This is the experience of the utopia island known as Hawaii. This paradise was not a part of the United States until August 21st, 1959 when it became the official 50th state. Hawaii has been seen as a touristic destination for centuries. Hawaii has a distinctive culture that makes it a prime vacation destination. “Over the ensuing centuries, a distinctly Hawaiian culture arose. Sailors became farmers and fishermen.” As Hawaii arose to become its own distinct culture the previous sailors that came to the island had settled on the land and became even more skilled on land as they were on the water. “Hawaiian culture is based around age-old legends and superstitions, ranging from traditional gods and goddesses.” (Hawaii Culture © 2023, TravelOnline Australia Pty Ltd.) Once you enter Hawaii you need to be conscious of the legends and respect the culture. Treating everyone with respect is a key aspect of Hawaiian culture. Hawaii is well known and well respected for its century-old amazing legends. When one is to visit ecstasy island one must be aware of the legends and respect them and the people that tell them. “ A modern legend claims that it is bad luck to take lava rocks from a volcano. Reportedly the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park often receives rocks in the mail from across the world, supposedly from those who visited the island and took lava rocks home, only to be plagued by bad luck.” (Hawaii Culture © 2023, TravelOnline Australia Pty Ltd.) Visiting a volcano is a part of the Hawaii experience but those who take a piece of the volcano are supposed to experience bad luck as long as that rock is in one's possession. Respect the legends and do not take a part of the island home as a souvenir. Music is also a paramount part of the culture. “Music is an important part of Hawaiian culture and has evolved from primal drumbeats to a chorus of chanting voices and more recently, into contemporary adaptions by today’s genre-spanning artist.” (Hawaii Culture © 2023, TravelOnline Australia Pty Ltd.) Some may see Hawaiian music as shouting with loud unrhythmic drumbeats but the passion and love that accompanies this music is unlike any other.
