The high cost of living in Honolulu constantly drives many residents away. Many people in Hawaii spend most of their time stressing over paying their next bill rather than eating regularly. The state needs to invest in new ways of living where people are more likely to sleep indoors instead of on unsanitary streets. Hawaii can benefit from a slight change such as having more farms.
Local stores such as Foodland and Safeway seem to have great bargains but are high-priced. Compared to the mainland, Hawaii’s groceries cost 30% more. A gallon of milk in Hawaii is $7 versus the mainland where its $2.50. The solution is simple. Start our own independent farm. Despite the bizarre idea, Hawaii residents can’t always rely on the ships which transport our goods. What if the ships suddenly stop delivering goods unexpectedly? The average rent for a two bedroom is approximately $1,800 a month. The average rent for a studio is approximately $700 to $1,200. If you are living on minimum wage where you earn $1,240 a month you can barely afford the greatest rent for a studio. Of course, this is before food, gas, and taxes. To solve this issue, landlords should make more equitable arrangements for families in need of financial assistants. According to nydailynews, there are over 7,000 homeless people living in Hawaii.
