Yosemite and the Golbi Desert, two very iconic and historical landscapes, both verbally illustrated by different authors in their own articles. The two authors, John Muir and Timothy Severin, have their own style of writing, which do have differences from each other. It's almost as if you were to compare the imaginative mind of a five-year old to a more grown teenager. Both authors have very effective forms of description, but they wouldn’t be able to serve the same purpose. For example, if they were to have to write a script for a commercial, John Muir, author of the Yosemite author, would be more affective and attention grabbing.
Prior to the increasing numbers of settlers in Hawaii, their affluent economy had been primarily based on fishing, agriculture, and art. Each person was responsible for creating or trading what they needed. However, once the Westerners arrived they had changed the economy to look more like theirs: people created things for trade. Asides from military purposes, one of the primary reasons for Hawaii’s occupation was to expand trade. The Big Five companies were sugar plantations which controlled most of Hawaii’s economy.
Disparities in development, power, and technology highlight the role of success and dominance that shape the course of history. The theme of the book seeks to understand the significant disparities and prompts exploration of factors, geographical, environmental, and historical circumstances that led to the unequal distribution of power. Lack of resources, inborn differences, social distinction, and the limited opportunities many indigenous people had were among the many challenges they faced. Diamond's narration is factual while both explaining the context and events that shape the course of history. The tone is neutral while still emphasizing each aspect of causation and effect when explaining native societies and European motives.
“Mammita’s Garden Cove” by Cyril Dabydeen tells the story of a protagonist Max, who demonstrates nostalgia of an island he once lived on whilst living in urban, downtown Toronto. Relying on the use of, repetition, diction, and juxtaposition Dabydeen successfully conveys the emotion of mild regret and ultimately complex attitude towards place held by the protagonist. Permeated throughout the excerpt are examples of repetition; emphasizing the despairing nature of the protagonist as he searches for a job. Dabydeen highlights the way in which Max’s sullen attitude towards his current place of residence. The author repeats the image of feet kicking into the ground on two separate occasions, “feet kicking hard ground” (line 4) and “His heels pressed
This is because of the massive culture, and thriving economy. Even though the imperialism of Hawaii could be viewed as aggressive behavior, it was necessary to stop other countries from acquiring Hawaii. But Hawaii also supplied the United States with a lot of natural resources and a suitable naval base that was crucial for us to win World War II. So without the imperialization of Hawaii, the Axis’ powers could have won WW2 and doomed us all. But since we imperialized the increasing demand for sugar resulted in the importation of thousands of immigrant laborers from all over the world to work the industry.

Albert Bierstadt’s The Rocky Mountains, Lander’s Peak (1863) is a oil on panel that means it has been created on wood, and the oil in the painting allows easy manipulation for the choice of color in the panting. However, David P. Bradley’s Indian Country Today (1997) is an acrylic on canvas that means it allows for multiple possibilities for color and technique. Bierstadt and Bradley paintings both have similar forms and choices of hue. In Bierstadt painting the use of form allows the viewer to distinguish between the mountains, trees, and the grass within the painting. In addition, the hue in Bierstadt’s painting also allows the viewer to perceive the difference between the grey color of the mountains to the hunter green of the trees and grass.

The companies that build telescopes on Mauna Kea are desecrating something that is very meaningful to Hawaiian culture.
