Alabama School of Mathematics and Science is a riveting high school that I would love to become a student of. I believe that I deserve an opportunity to enroll because I wish to prepare for my future as best as I can, I have an interest in the school’s courses and activities, and ASMS provides a better learning experience than my current school. I know that ASMS would greatly prepare me for my future. I wish to attend college and medical school to become a psychiatrist, and ASMS would ready me for the hardships of both. It would also give me the chance to explore my options to see if that really is the path I wish to follow for my career.
Being a leader in HBSA is a great privilege and it will be a great honor to become one in future semesters. A small 5-year-old girl walking downstairs through the outside back door of her grandmother’s house in Mexico, sliding down each step of the staircase, set in the exterior connection between the two floors, just to be able to use the restroom on the first floor; a reminiscence that portrays commitment. Uniquely, this one experience defined my character. I’ve replayed this moment in my head many times through difficult times. I’ve had to face fear, anger, disappointment, and uncertainty all alone. Yet, I had never met any other person with whom I could identify with those same trademarks; until I became a medical assistant.
Essay #1: Describe why you wish to enroll at WMed. You should describe any connection you have to southwest Michigan. I would love to stay in Michigan and I appreciate that Kalamazoo is a large city with only a forty-minute drive to Lake Michigan beaches. Not to mention that WMed is the only Michigan-based medical school to be voted one of the 50 Most Beautiful Medical Schools. It is also a new institution which allows for innovation by its students.
Personal Statement Many pairs of eyes stared at me, while I gave my first speech at the Sikh Temple of Riverside, on the Massacre of 1984 event that took place in Punjab, India. The speech was based upon a book that I read at my Sunday school while I was in high school, which described the 1984 genocide of Sikhs in India, by anti-Sikh mobs, most notable members of the government, in response to the assassination of Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards. Thousands of people were displaced in the massacre and many mothers lost their sons and husbands in these riots. However, till this present day the Government of India has still not actively prosecuted and punished those responsible for the mass killings, and many mothers are still waiting for their sons to return after many years because they don’t if they are dead or missing. As a child of two nurses, I have always been partial to the medical field. I have chosen to pursue physician assistant studies because of the responsibilities the position holds, such as examining and diagnosing patients and giving treatments. The career stability is also an aspect that draws my attention to the profession. The healthcare field, while stable, is always evolving; new technologies, procedures, treatments, and even discoveries of diseases have those working in the field constantly learning and experiencing something for the first time. I require a challenging professional career, and I believe this field will provide that.
One of the main issues of the Psychopathic Checklist (PCL-R) is that it is very subject and therefore can be easily misused. Although any test can be misused, the Psychopathic Checklist (PCL-R) has a higher risk of being misused due to its extreme subjectivity. mI have been fortunate in having the opportunity to work as a bank healthcare assistant at Hereford County Hospital. I am a 27-year-old mother and fiancé. My goal is to complete my science prerequisite classes with 4.0’s so that I can apply to the Physician Assistant program at Western Michigan University. I graduated in 2015 with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice from WMU and I am currently working as a Medical Assistant. I have a son named Lorenzo, his first birthday is a couple hours away! In my very limited free time I like to work out through a program called Fit Body Boot Camp.
With my desire to assist others and sincere interest in healthcare, my aspiration is to become a physician assistant. I am confident in my abilities to meet the standards, as well as surpass the expectations for a career in medicine, due to my high-achieving academics, notable work experience, and strong qualities and traits. My positive attitude towards learning and willingness to perform at maximum efficiency to achieve my goals has helped me succeed academically. With my excellent academic skills and overly competitive nature, for example, I exceeded the minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA set forth by a majority of the graduate programs. I want to be a physician because I want people to grow old. At the age of 6, one of my closest friends was diagnosed with leukemia. By age 8, the disease claimed his life, robbing him of the opportunity to experience the privilege of growing old. Unfortunately, we live in a society of vanity. We see the process of aging and choose not to embrace it.
I would like to pursue a combined MD/PhD program because I want to perform and apply research to the treatment of patients. The MD program alone would give me the opportunity to treat patients, but my strong desire to study the mechanisms of disease would be better satisfied with a degree that allows me to do both clinical and lab work interchangeably. I am willing to make the personal sacrifices necessary to acquire this education, and I believe my path from a small rural school to where I am now, as well as my performance and dedication throughout, demonstrates my ability to handle the load. Through this dual program, I could serve small communities like my own while contributing to the overall understanding of the mechanisms of disease or the function of the human body. I can help progress both patient care and, hopefully, humanity as a whole.
Since my last application, I have earned Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) degree from Boston. The program was an excellent resource to gain insight into the US healthcare system. Learning from highly intellectual professors, I am now fully aware of the administrative field in healthcare, be it the role of various stakeholders such as physicians, insurance companies or patients, to the legal and financial aspects. Furthermore, I applied the skills learned to my internship and current job at a health center. Working in the healthcare industry also led me to various resources that are crucial to integrate oral health care with primary care.
